Phase One: Facing the Shadow

The first seven tasks for sex and relationship addicts lay the foundation for recovery:

1. Break through denial: Admit addiction and accept help.
   
2. Understand addiction: Learn about addictive behavior and apply it to your life.
   
3. Surrender to the process: Accept addiction in your life and understand your limitations.
   
4. Limit damage from behavior: Make an action plan for change.
   
5. Establish sobriety: Set boundaries to better manage your life.
   
6. Ensure physical integrity: Understand the physical aspects of addiction and identify your dysfunctional patterns.
   
7. Participate in a culture of support: Seek out a healthy support network for yourself.
